Why Isn’t My Christian Life Working?

Do you ever feel frustrated because your Christian life just isn’t working out? Do you hear other people talking about having the peace of God, but you just don’t feel it? Or maybe you hear them talking about victory over sin, but no matter how hard you try to resist temptation, it just doesn’t work? And then, you know those irritating people who brag about having such great relationships, but all you have is tons of conflict with no resolution. It just doesn’t seem fair!

If this sounds like you and you want something in your life to change, then pay attention to this game-changing issue: The Christian life is not about trying harder or being a good person. It’s about surrendering to God.

Being born again and receiving God’s gift of salvation happens in one moment of time when you turn from your sin and receive the free gift of God. But as you go along on your daily journey with Christ, there comes a point in time when you will need to understand the difference between salvation and the lordship of Christ.

In Romans 12:1, the Apostle Paul instructs every single believer: “I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.”

What Paul is talking about here is total and complete surrender. That’s because true worship is about giving God your whole self — your heart and mind and body. What God really wants is all of you. Think of surrendering to Him as your “spiritual act of worship.”

And when we surrender to His complete lordship over our lives, God meets us personally and gives us strength to get through whatever temptation and trial we may face. But God’s power only comes to us when the conduit of our heart is open, when we say to Him in our heart, “All that I am, and all that I have is yours.” This is the game-changing moment.

So are you ready for a change? Are you ready to push all the “chips” of your life to the center of the table and say, “OK, God, I’m all in! You deal. I will follow you no matter what.” If you are, then get ready, because His power will show up in your life like never before.
