The people of Cuba are facing overwhelming humanitarian challenges. Nationwide blackouts, severe fuel shortages, and a deepening economic crisis are disrupting food, water, and even hospital care. The people of Cuba are facing seemingly insurmountable challenges, and they are looking for hope.
Pastors across the country are helping them find that hope in Jesus. These resilient pastors are faithfully leading—and discipling their people in the midst of crisis.
Recently, 20 of Cuba’s most influential pastors and denominational leaders from Cuba left their country for Living on the Edge training in an undisclosed location, kept private for their safety. Some had not left Cuba for over a decade. With the watchful eye of the government upon them and carrying the heavy weight of ministering to people who are facing desperate humanitarian circumstances, these men had every reason to feel hopeless. Yet they arrived at the training location filled with passion and hope for the future. They were seeking true change—for their own lives, for their communities, and their country—and they could see the doorway opening before them.
For three days, these pastors learned what it means to be true disciples, how to see the fruit of discipleship in their own lives, and how to share it with others. They discovered that a healthy church isn’t measured by numbers or finances—it’s measured by transformation in the hearts of the people they serve. They were equipped and encouraged as they worshiped together, learned together, and fellowshipped together, sharing tears, laughter, and lots of coffee. And above all, they thanked God.
And when this group of Cuban church leaders returned home after the training in Latin America, they brought new encouragement with them.
These ministry leaders have already begun to pass on what they’ve learned, expecting to reach at least 5,000 churches across Cuba by the end of this year. Living on the Edge will continue to support their efforts by quietly funding printing and distribution of discipleship materials inside the country to serve the needs of these pastors and their church networks.
“You didn’t just fund plane tickets. You funded a miracle. You were the hand of God opening a door that had seemed closed for years. You gave these servants days of freedom, of laughter, of training that transformed their lives. When those pastors crossed the sea again to return to the island, they did not return alone. They returned carrying the prayers, generosity, and love of every brother and sister who upheld this work in silence and in faith.”
— David Tamez, Living on the Edge Latin America Director
This is how Jesus taught His people to disciple the world—and how to make disciples even when ministry access is limited: equip a few to reach many.
And the gifts of faithful friends like you help make it possible.
When you give to Living on the Edge, you are equipping the pastors and ministry leaders who step into difficult places, who stand alongside their brothers and sisters in times of crisis, and who remind them that there is only one Person in whom to find your hope: Jesus Christ. Your gifts deliver this message of truth, grace, and mercy, even to closed countries where following Jesus can be difficult and dangerous.
Please join us in praying for the pastors of Cuba:
- That their families would have their basic daily needs met—food, medicine, and shelter—amid the economic crisis.
- That God would grant them wisdom and boldness as they seek to share the truth of the gospel and what they’ve learned from Living on the Edge with pastors across the nation.
- That God would protect them and the believers in their communities from government surveillance and restrictions so pastors can continue to minister faithfully and believers can gather without fear.
- That God would raise up strong, well-equipped leaders among the Christians of Cuba to disciple and grow the church in the face of hardship.
Thank you for supporting pastors in Cuba as they lead people to find hope in Jesus in the face of seemingly hopeless circumstances.
